5 Fish Ponds in the Philippines

The fish pond located in the Philippines takes 2 months from the preparation to the final usage. The total geomembrane quantity is 5000 sqm, which includes 5 ponds, built on a farm. He started this idea in 2019, when he begins the purchasing in 2020, due to the COVID, everything seems to be delayed.

Generally, you need to get your plan ready for the fish pond, from the design to the construction then the installation. For the preparation work, dig the pit where you want to build the pond. You can make it around one or rectangle. The ground should be smooth, or else it will influence the service life of the HDPE liner.

Dikes are the most important part of a fish pond, as they keep the necessary volume of water impounded and form the actual pond; their design and construction are particularly important. You will need to learn more about pond dikes and earthwork calculations, before learning how to stake out and construct the pond.

There are several big characteristics of pond dikes:

(a) It should be able to resist the water pressure resulting from the pond water depth.

(b) It should be impervious, the water seepage through the dike being kept to a least.

(c) It should be high enough to keep the pond water from ever running over its top, which would destroy the dike.

Above these points, HDPE or LLDPE liner can help the pond well.

 It will be better to start with a pond greater than 300 square meters. Such a pond will produce enough fish for food. It will also produce fish for sales and more cash income. For example, if you build a pond 20 by 20 meters, the pond will measure 400 square meters. A square or rectangular pond is easiest to build,

About the construction, mark out a big square on the site you have chosen, about 26 by 26 meters. Mark the corners with pegs and run a string between the pegs to show where the outside of the banks will be.

Clear the big square of all trees, bushes, and grass and take away as many big roots as you can.

We need to plan a central area of the pond, dig towards the lower end, dig a little deeper. As you dig out the soil, put it between the central outer lines and the final outer liners, where the banks will be.
